Spätestens 1885, noch vor der Erfindung des Automobils, begann der spätere Flugzeugbauer und Flieger Anton Knubel mit der Manufaktur und dem Vertrieb von Fahrrädern in Münster. Die Firma wurde nach einiger Zeit von Antons jüngerem Bruder Bernard übernommen, der auch als Radsportler und Teilnehmer an den ersten Olympischen Spielen 1896 in Athen bekannt wurde. Bernard Knubel entwickelte die Firma vom Fahrrad- und Motorradhandel zum Kraftfahrzeughandels- und Serviceunternehmen, vornehmlich für die Marke Adler.
Nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg wurde die Firma Knubel Generalvertretung der damals neuen Marke Volkswagen für Münster und das Münsterland unter der Leitung von Bernard Knubels Sohn Franz. Mit dem Wachstum des Vertragspartners Volkswagen wuchs auch die Firma Knubel. Neue Standorte und Markenvertretungen, vor allem für die Marken Audi und Porsche, entstanden über die Jahrzehnte in Münster und im Münsterland.
Die Leitung ging von Franz Knubel auf seinen Sohn Karl Heinz über. Inzwischen ist dessen Sohn Johann Friedrich Kopf des Unternehmens. Neben drei Kraftfahrzeug-Betrieben plus der Zentralen Verwaltung in Münster, ist die Unternehmensgruppe Knubel mit weiteren acht Betrieben in den Kreisen Warendorf, Coesfeld, Borken und Steinfurt vertreten. Zudem gehört die Firma Knubel zu den Mitbegründern der bundesweit tätigen Flottenmanagementgesellschaft Flotte Eins. Die Unternehmensgruppe Knubel bietet ein großes Portfolio an Vertriebs- und Serviceleistungen rund um das Automobil. Die Standorte vereinen den Volkswagen und Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeug Vertrieb und Service, Porsche Vertrieb und Service, Audi Service, Skoda Service, Seat Service und Cupra Service. Das Markenportfolio wird aktuell stark erweitert.
Corporate history: More than 135 years of Knubel
In 1885 at the latest, even before the invention of the automobile, Anton Knubel, who later became an aircraft manufacturer and aviator, began manufacturing and selling bicycles in Münster. After some time, the company was taken over by Anton's younger brother Bernard, who also became known as a cyclist and participant in the first Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. Bernard Knubel transformed the company from a bicycle and motorcycle dealership into a motor vehicle dealership and service company, primarily for the Adler brand.
After the Second World War, Knubel became the general agent for the then new Volkswagen brand for Münster and the Münsterland region under the management of Bernard Knubel's son Franz. With the growth of the contract partner Volkswagen, the Knubel company also expanded. Over the decades, new locations and brand agencies, especially for the Audi and Porsche brands, were established in Münster and the Münsterland region.
The management was passed from Franz Knubel to his son Karl Heinz. Meanwhile, his son Johann Friedrich is the head of the company. In addition to three car dealerships plus the central administration in Münster, the Knubel corporate group is represented by a network of nine further sites in eight towns in the districts of Warendorf, Coesfeld, Borken and Steinfurt. In addition, the Knubel company is one of the co-founders of the nationwide fleet management company F+SC. The Knubel group offers a large portfolio of automotive sales and services. The locations combine Volkswagen and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle Sales and Service, Porsche Sales and Service, Audi Service, Skoda Service, Seat Service and Cupra Service. The brand portfolio is currently being greatly expanded.
